SEATTLE, Wash – July 7th, 2021— Gonzaga University (GU) and University of Alabama are scheduled to play in the 2021 Battle in Seattle on Saturday, December 4th. The first-ever meeting between the programs will be the first college basketball game played in Climate Pledge Arena.

“We are excited to play an incredibly-talented team like Alabama in front of our great Seattle fan base,” Gonzaga Head Coach Mark Few said. “Coach Oats is building something special in Tuscaloosa. We are looking forward to the matchup in a brand-new world-class venue.”

Game time and television information will be announced in the near future. Tickets go on-sale to the public on July 16 at 10 am PT. at ticketmaster.com. Presale tickets to ZAG members will begin on July 9.

“We are thrilled to partner with Climate Pledge Arena and Gonzaga to host the game, with a matchup of the quality of Gonzaga versus Alabama,” said Dan Shell, President of OVG Collegiate. “Gonzaga is among a small handful of elite college basketball programs nationally, and it is a privilege to collaborate with their first-class athletic department on this premier college basketball event both this year and for years to come.”

The Zags are 16-9 all-time versus current members from the Southeastern Conference. GU has won eight of its last 10 meetings with an SEC opponent, including a 90-67 victory in its latest matchup with the league, versus Auburn last season.

“As we continue to program the arena, this game represents our intent to provide a variety of programming for the community. Seattle is a basketball town and the ability to attract and host elite college basketball is of high importance. This announcement along with earlier announcements  2023 and 2025 NCAA® Basketball Championship events, emphasizes this,” said Eric Bresler, Senior Vice-President of Programming for Climate Pledge Arena.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Battle in Seattle,” incoming Gonzaga Director of Athletics Chris Standiford said. “The Emerald City has so many GU alums and supporters. The event has such a rich history, and we are looking forward to a great environment in a new state of the art arena.”

The 2021 Battle in Seattle will be the 14th edition of this event, but the first since 2015 where Gonzaga beat Tennessee, 86-79. The Bulldogs have won the last five Battle in Seattle games, and hold a 9-4 record in the event all-time.
