‘One Roof Foundation’ will focus on youth homelessness, access to hockey, and environmental justice.

SEATTLE – May 4, 2021 — Climate Pledge Arena and the Seattle Kraken today announced the launch of One Roof Foundation™, a new 501c3 organization that will leverage the collective resources and shared values of Climate Pledge Arena and the Seattle Kraken to advance meaningful social change.

One Roof Foundation derives from the belief that the well-being of every person is tied to the well- being of every other person, and that the future health of humanity is dependent on the future health of our planet.  The Foundation envisions a more equitable society and a healthy planet where everyone can realize a brighter future.

To achieve this vision, the Foundation will focus on three primary pillars:

• Youth homelessness:  Through a long term partnership with YouthCare, the foundation will provide funding, visibility, and job support to help end youth homelessness in our region. More than 40,000 public school students are homeless or experiencing housing insecurity in Washington State.
• Youth access to hockey: The foundation will invest in programs and partnerships to ensure that all youth in our region have access to hockey, both at the Kraken Training Center and throughout the community.
• Environmental justice:  The foundation will elevate the voices of, and support communities disproportionately impacted by climate change.

The Kraken’s Vice President of Community Engagement and Social Impact, Mari Horita, will serve as the Executive Director of One Roof Foundation.

“We believe that issues like homelessness, racism, and inequity of opportunity affect all of us, not just the targeted populations.  We are all in this together – under One Roof,” said Horita. “We know we have an incredible opportunity and obligation to be part of the positive change in our region, so that everyone feels seen and valued.”

“For almost sixty years, the arena’s historic roof has been at the heart of the Seattle Community. And now, it will be transformed and given new life for the next 60 years. It will continue to be the symbol that represents our community, our ambitions and our ability to come together,” said Tim Leiweke, CEO of Oak View Group.

It has been one of the highlights of my career,” said Tod Leiweke, CEO of the Seattle Kraken. “The Kraken is an organization which has already prioritized social justice and One Roof Foundation will build on this to help marginalized youth realize their dreams both on and off the ice.”
